Fishing is a great recreational activity and should be experienced by young and old. Michigan offers a variety of fishing from rivers, lakes, streams, big water and on-ice. Fishing in Michigan requires a license during all season’s except for two free fishing weekends – one in the summer and one in the winter.
Fees from fishing licenses go back to the industry to protect, preserve and enhance sport fishing. License fees help pay for fisheries and hatcheries, habitat maintenance and development, endangered species programs, fishing and conservation education, lake maps and other publications, as well as a variety of other beneficial programs.
